Coffee Maker

A coffee maker, like a toaster, is used only intermittently, and therefore enjoys long life. What usually requires replacement, during normal kitchen service, is the little light that comes on when the brewing process is completed. In most pots this is single-contact, miniature base lamp of the kind widely used as pilots in radio and television equipment. The method of getting at this light in a typical coffee maker is illustrated herewith.

Eventually, the main heating element might burn out. Putting in a new one is not always feasible, because of the sealed construction of the water chamber. In fact, it is often cheaper to buy a brand-new maker than to attempt to pry open the old one. ·

Top right, turn pot over and remove knob of brew strength adjustment;  tiny screw is on underside.

Above, remove any screws on the bottom plate and put these in a safe place, free from a loss hazard.

Center right, with cover removed carefully, thermostat mechanism, pilot light assembly are in view.

Right, fold bottom over. If bulb is faulty, replace with No. 47 lamp. Check connections for tightness, but don't bend or disturb the  thermostat  arms.

This practice more than any other puts an appliance out of commission. Neither the No. 18 stranded wire nor the molded attachment plug has the strength to withstand repeated yanking. Grasp the plug itself.
